My Story

I began dieting in Highschool to lose a couple of pounds, but mostly to maintain my weight. I found calorie counting to be a simple way of managing my intake and I used that in conjunction with staying active; both of which proved to be quite effective throughout Highschool and a couple of years following. After college, I started becoming more involved in sports and I started down a path of very extreme diet and exercise. That is when I began having massive fluctuations in my weight, which meant that I was losing or gaining anywhere between 0-50 pounds. Not having the skills or tools to manage my emotions, thoughts or behaviors, I developed a few different eating disorders. One of which were extreme binge eating, which I struggled with for over a decade. Some of the most extreme days being at an intake of 8-10K calories which would explain how I once managed to put on about 40 pounds in less than 4 months. My extreme struggles with over exercising, extreme restriction and other unhealthy behaviors to my seemingly uncontrolled binge eating and overeating were destroying my life. Yet, I was at a loss to figure out how to climb out of the mess I was in. Was food to blame? Were the diets to blame? Sugar? Fat? Processed Foods? Our weight obsessed culture? Well, to make a long story short I began a journey that ultimately led to the pathway to my complete freedom and none of these turned out to be the culprit. After struggling with the vicious cycle of obsession around food, weight loss, weight gain, guilt and shame, I came to the point where I wanted freedom outside of a new diet and trying “harder”. I embarked on a journey to figure out what happened to me and I knew that once I figured it out, that I would want to share my story, my hope and what helped me with those who would listen.
